- Entity registered in the Swiss commercial register (company, association, foundation, sole proprietorship) with registered office and management in Switzerland
- Association or foundation without entry in the commercial register with registered office and administration in Switzerland
Registration requirements for private individuals
- You are a private individual (natural person) and would like to apply for a domain name that is associated with your name or your artist name, for example.
- You must be resident in Switzerland and a Swiss citizen.
- Your OASI number (ger.: AHV) is required for submitting the application.
Additional information on domain selection for private individuals
Natural persons can only register domain names ending in .swiss that contain at least one of the following designations:
- Your own official surname
- Another surname, first name, alliance name, joint name in the case of a registered partnership registered with the civil registry office
- The name acquired in connection with a religious order
- Your stage name under which you have become known
- A name to which you have a claim under trademark law (e.g. a registered trademark)
These mandatory components can be combined with freely selectable designations.
Domain names that correspond to or are similar to generic names (e.g. Barbieri, Marchand, Metzger) may not be assigned to natural persons.
Such names are only assigned to a natural person if they are supplemented by a further designation - for example, a first name, an imaginary name or the indication of a hobby.
Swiss nationals residing abroad may only use .swiss domain names for private, charitable or association purposes, but not for commercial activities from abroad.

Domain names that correspond to or are similar to generic names and that are of particular interest to all or part of the Swiss community can in principle only be assigned by means of mandates.

- Natural persons cannot acquire a .zuerich domain
Specifications for domain names
- In principle, all names with at least 1 character and up to 63 characters can be registered:
Letters A-Z, including ä, ö and ü; numbers 0-9 and hyphen. - The registration is subject to a review to protect the Zurich trademark and its security. This usually takes 1-2 working days.

How long does it take for a domain to be registered for me?
This is somewhat dependent on the domain extension to be registered.
Most domains are registered in "real time". This means that if you place your order during office hours, it will be processed and you will receive the registration confirmation by e-mail shortly afterwards.
If you have placed your order in the evening or at the weekend, it will be processed by the morning of the next working day at the latest. You will also receive confirmation of registration shortly afterwards.
Special domain names such as .zuerich and .swiss are not registered in real time. An application is submitted to the relevant registry.
The registration process for .zuerich domains usually takes a few days and the registration process for .swiss domains will take several weeks.

I can't find the domain I want in the store. Can I not register it?
KreativMedia currently offers over 450 different domain extensions (TLDs) for registration and transfer.
However, there are domain endings with special guidelines that we do not currently offer.
If you would like to register or transfer a domain that is not offered in our store, contact our support and we will check whether we can include this domain extension in our portfolio.
I already have a hosting or mail service elsewhere. Can I connect my domain to these services?
Domain registration and the technical administration of individual services are completely independent topics.
You either connect your domain via the name servers to a web hosting or you use a DNS zone to redirect individual services to individual servers.
The connection via the name servers can easily be made in the my.KreativMedia customer portal. Here you enter the name servers that you have received from your provider in the domain name.
The domain will be connected to your hosting after the DNS propagation period of maximum 24 hours.
If you use several different providers, the connection via the DNS may be the better choice.
As the owner of a domain, you will receive a free DNS hosting on request, on which you can independently manage the DNS zone and thus connect the website with external website providers (e.g. Wix, Sqarespace, etc.) or with external mail service providers (Office 365, Google, etc.).
Do you offer a volume discount?
Yes, at KreativMedia you get a staggered volume discount for .ch and .li domains starting from 10 domain names.
The quantity discount cannot be combined with other discounts.

The volume discount applies to all .ch and .li domains listed in your customer number.
If you manage domain contracts on several different customer accounts, we recommend merging them into one customer account so that you can optimally benefit from the volume discount.
How are domain contracts billed?
The volume discount that is granted in your customer account on the day of invoicing applies.
Regardless of whether a domain is canceled or added to your customer account in the following days.
For domain renewals, the domain fees will be invoiced two months before the renewal.
Do I receive the volume discount retroactively?
If you qualify for a volume discount, this will only apply to future invoices. Invoices that have already been issued cannot be adjusted retroactively.
