Are you thinking about moving your website to us? Then you've come to the right place! We'll go into the details of transferring your website to us and show you how easy the move is - whether you're an experienced webmaster or a newcomer to the digital world. You have the choice: either you take the migration into your own hands thanks to our guide or you benefit from the migration service provided by our support team.

Is your website transferable?

Not all websites are the same in terms of code, especially when it comes to transferring them. Content management systems such as WordPress, Joomla or Drupal can be transferred in just a few steps. However, if your website was created with a website builder, we will be happy to check the transferability of your website in advance.

Set up your new web hosting with us

Before the transfer can take place, you need a web hosting plan with us. Set up the desired domain for your website under Plesk. Plesk is an easy-to-use platform for managing your websites and domains, similar to the dashboard of a car, with which you can conveniently control and make settings. Don't worry, the setup does not affect the ongoing operation of your current website. Your existing web page will remain accessible during this phase.

Tip

As with moving into a new apartment, where you often use both apartments at the same time for a certain period of time to ensure a seamless transition, we recommend a similar procedure when moving your website. It is advisable to allow enough time before the termination date of the old hosting provider. This will minimize the risk of bottlenecks and unwanted downtime and ensure that the website remains accessible at all times.

Do it yourself: Step by step

Via Plesk or FTP - Choose your path

Our web hosting supports two practical methods for data transfer. Both methods are designed to make the transition to our hosting as smooth as possible so that you can choose the option that suits you best.

Plesk

The Plesk technical interface offers you a migration function with which you can easily transfer the content of your existing website to us. This option is characterized by its user-friendly interface, which guides you step by step through the migration process.

FTP

If you prefer a classic approach, transferring your website via FTP is the best solution. This allows you to quickly and securely move large amounts of data from your website manually from your old hosting to the new one. Databases can also be easily exported and imported to us.

E-mail migration made easy

Did you know that you can also import your e-mail accounts via Plesk?
It is important that you first make sure that your e-mail addresses have been created in your new web hosting. As soon as this process is complete, you can start importing your mailboxes via Plesk.

The last step: The name servers

The last step is to update the name servers so that they point to your web hosting with us. You can find the nameservers to be used in the e-mail you received after ordering your hosting from us. If you cannot find this information, you can contact our support team at any time.

If your domain is registered with us, you will find a simple guide below to update your nameservers:

For external domains, please check your customer account on your provider's platform or contact their customer service.

After a name server change, it can take up to 24 hours (known as propagation time) for your domain to fully point to the new DNS zone. This time period is based on the default time-to-live (TTL) settings used by DNS servers to determine the frequency of DNS record updates. Normally the TTL is several hours to a day.

To shorten the duration of the name server change, the TTL can be temporarily reduced. A lower TTL means that the DNS cache is updated more quickly, which results in a shorter propagation time.

If the TTL value is currently 24 hours, this value must also be reduced 24 hours before the effective DNS adjustment, as the adjustment of the TTL value is also subject to DNS propagation.

After changing the name servers, you can check the progress of this process by using online tools such as DNS Checker to track the current status worldwide.

As soon as the name servers have been updated to our servers and the website can be accessed correctly, the transfer process is considered complete. It is also important to check the functionality of the e-mail accounts if they have also been migrated. Test this by trying to send/receive messages from and to your migrated account. This will ensure that both sending and receiving works smoothly and that the migration process has been completed successfully.
